It's hard to believe that Fall is well underway, and we are nearing the Christmas season. As the leaves have shown off their beauty over the last few weeks, I'm reminded to be grateful. That is the consistent reminder that keeps coming back to me over and over again. Be grateful. Because God cannot be anything other than who He is. And who He is...is faithful, merciful and good. Even in the hard times. So, as I continue growing and learning in this life, I'm reminded that even though I may not be grateful for all things. I can be grateful in all things. Because even when things are hard, He is with us. And that is the posture I want to have as I navigate through this season and into the next. Before you pick your next setlist, I encourage you to pause and sing a song of thanks to Him first. Maybe this setlist is for your own private worship time, maybe it's for your congregation as is...or simply inspiration as you plan yours. However you use it, I pray it reminds you as it has reminded me, to pause and be grateful for who He is, and all that He has done and all that He will do in the days to come. As a mom of three, as we approach Mother's Day, I have recently reflected on how my prayers and my worship have changed since becoming a mom. I've realized a greater need for it. Since becoming a mom, I've found myself on my knees more times than I can count. There's something about it that is beautiful and challenging at the same time. I am reminded daily of my need for my Savior. My song, You Already Have is a prayer that I wrote recently, and it is particularly poignant on my journey as a mom. I find myself feeling inadequate in so many areas. And as a mom, I thought that I was never enough of anything for anyone. Inspired by Psalm 46, this song was my reminder that I don't need to worry about coming up short because I lean on a Savior who already has everything I will ever need. When I thought about the kinds of songs that I might put on a setlist for Mother's Day, my heart immediately went to surrender and gratitude. That must be my daily posture as a mom, surrendering my kids, my failures and insecurities, and then living in gratitude for what God has entrusted to me. So, the first three songs are all about surrender, and the last two are about gratitude. I created this setlist to allow us to reflect on all that we can be grateful for as moms (whether biological, adoptive, or foster moms, aunts, teachers or mentors, etc.). It can also be a unique opportunity to minister to those for whom this day is painful due to loss, grief, or disappointment in waiting. As we near the end of summer and launch into a new school year, I have been thinking about ways to make sure that I continue to make the time to pause in His Presence, even as life races on. All of the songs in this set are packed with the truths of scripture, which fill our hearts with peace and bring us to that quiet place. And they are a beautiful declaration for us to sing over our families, communities and the new season ahead. Whether you use this set in its entirety or as inspiration for your own set, may these words remind us to keep our focus on Him in this season, declaring our praise in gratitude for all that He has done and for all that is to come. This set is a mix of new and familiar, including a brand new arrangement of the beautiful hymn, Blessed Assurance. I pray that this set is helpful to you, taking some of the workload off your plate as we launch into this new and busy season.
