About
Groovy. Soulful. Passionate.
These three words describe Jim Bugg's music, his playing, and how he approaches the gift he feels God has blessed him with.
Speaking philosophically about music, Jim adheres to a phrase he coined many years ago - 'music comes from within, not from without'. For his explanation of this, he says “I firmly believe that God plants music in our soul, which becomes part of the fiber and essence of who we are as a person and musician. We don't necessarily learn it from a book nor ask somebody to do it for us, but we create it uniquely using our soul and God-given talent – it comes from within, through God. I believe that music is God speaking through our heart and and we're being used as a conduit to worship and glorify Him. We are His vessels.”
“To me, being able to create music is a gift. I believe that, as Christians, we need to share this gift with others,” says Jim.
“I believe that music can open a floodgate of awareness for a person. It can speak differently to each individual, but it should evoke some sort of emotional response within them. Otherwise, the point of creating seems, to me, to be lost.” comments Jim.
A veteran of many years of saxophone studio playing and live performance, Jim has been exposed to and has experienced many types of music and artists – from blues to jazz to soul and everything in between. As a talented multi-instrumentalist with a deep desire to worship God through his soulful, contemplative style of music, Jim's musical roots can be found in RnB, soul, jazz and gospel and this varied repertoire ensures his versatility as a performer.
These influences can be heard throughout Jim's thoughtful and tasteful music and is evident in each performance. With numerous studio credits to his name, Jim Bugg's sound and professionalism has turned heads - and ears - whenever he plays.
