About
Led by Jon Egan, the Desperation Band was birthed out of the student ministries of New Life Church in Colorado Springs. They are recording artist with a great family of worshippers from Integrity Music. They continue to make New Life Church and the Desperation Conferences the core of who they are.
The Desperation Band has recorded multiple albums with Integrity music, including “Who You Are”, the critically acclaimed “Everyone Overcome”, and the band’s first studio worship album “Light Up The World”, which was Jon Egan’s first shot at producing! In addition to Desperation Band albums, they have also been featured on three New Life Church recordings… 2006′s “My Savior Lives”, 2008’s “Counting on God”, and the most recent church album “You Hold It All.”
Releasing this year are two albums! Fall of 2011 comes an independent release from the Dband called Update:LIVE. This album, raw and barely edited, is a worship experience taken from the Desperation Conferences. On the back of 16 of Dband’s favorite songs from the past few years, this is the sound of the desperation movement, 10 years strong. The second release, coming March of 2012, is a studio worship album with producer Paul Mabury. This is the bands first experience with an outside producer. 11 brand new songs, most of which were collaborations with writers Jason Ingram, Paul Mabury, Mia Fieldes, and others.
Dband albums feature “high-energy, passionate new worship songs that convey a raw hunger for God.” Desperation Band was originally formed in 2001, when New Life youth pastor David Perkins launched a youth movement for local churches called Desperation. They hold multiple Desperation Conferences every summer in Colorado Springs. The Conferences draw thousands of high school and college students who are desperate for the greater things of God. The emphasis of the conference is wrapped up in “The Vow,” a commitment to PASSION, INTERCESSION, CONSECRATION, AND MISSION. Over 30,000 young people have signed the vow and the stories continue to pour in about the difference they are making in their world.
Made up of several committed musicians, the band often travels to conferences, churches, and concerts throughout the country. They are best known for writing songs like “I Am Free”, “My Savior Lives”, “Amazed”, “Here In Your Presence”, “You Hold It All’, “Yahweh”, “Overcome”, and more. Several of these songs have been covered by mainstream Christian bands and many songs are sung in churches throughout America and around the world.
The Desperation Band has found great purpose in “Heartwork”, a ministry to the youth of the world that empowers them to be hope and freedom to the orphans of the world. Starting June of 2010 at the Desperation Conference, Heartwork and the Desperation Band launched “the 1k Campaign”…1,000 orphan projects built by 1,000 student ministries in 1,000 days. Student groups all over the country can log on to www.heartwork.tv and sign on to an orphan care project. The clock is ticking. The needs are waiting to be met.
The Desperation Band has always been more of a ministry than a band. Jon and the guys believe that true change comes when people lay aside their agendas to encounter the true and living God. They are passionate about the presence of God and they don’t hide it. They are well aware that music will never impact souls…only the power of God. They don’t perform or entertain. They want to join with real people to worship a real God. The Desperation Band exists to partner with His Kingdom and to pray as Jesus told us… “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” -Mother Teresa
“This I know. We will command life from dead places. We will bring light to the darkness. We will prophecy into the void. We will draw near to our Father and invite everyone to come along. We will hear His heart for others. We will answer with movement. With action. We will pray. Then move. Then pray. Then move. We will risk. We will look like fools, we will look good, and everything in between. We will find our identity in Him. We will walk with a limp because we wrestled with God. We will heal those limping while we ourselves limp. We will be ourselves. As for the world changing…we’re gonna join with many others, stay committed to doing our part, and see God reign.”

As we read through the founding of the church and disciples' ministries on earth, we can see that times were hard. Facing persecution, ridicule, and even death, the disciples cling to the hope of Jesus and his return to help them overcome these difficult times. We can also have this hope through our difficulties. Jesus gives his Holy Spirit to those who believe and follow him. We can have strength to overcome trials knowing that God is with us. We also know that one day Jesus will return and those who follow him will be united with him. These songs and hymns show how we can persevere in difficulty by focusing on the hope we have in Jesus and that one day he will return.

Truth of the Word, truth of our faith, and Truth embodied in Jesus. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus also said that the Word of God is truth. John 18 tells us that Jesus was born to bear witness to the truth. And the gospels record Jesus' words that though heaven and earth will pass away, God's truth never will. Here is a compilation of songs that focus on truth.
Do you ever wonder if God is still in control of this world? It's normal to wonder that, but at the same time, we need to keep reminding ourselves that God is indeed all-powerful. In spite of all our circumstances, the power of God is real and relevant. When we sing about his power, our hearts are filled with hope, courage, and renewed confidence to face another day. These are the songs that remind us of the powerful God we serve.
When we sing about God's grace and we believe the truth deep in our hearts, it affects our lives. We live with more compassion. We extend more mercy. We feel more empathy. This is why worship songs about grace and mercy are so important to the church. Every day and every week, through song and word, we must remind ourselves about the nature of God who is full of grace. What we receive from God, we extend to others. This is the full cycle of worship.
