By Your Blood...We Overcome
Featuring Fuzed Worship Posted on June 12, 2013
I picked up my guitar one afternoon, strummed an E chord and this chorus flooded my soul…by Your blood, we overcome, we are wrapped up in Your loving arms. It’s so amazing when the Holy Spirit does that and it was evident God wanted to use this song from the beginning. It just felt like a “God” song. There was so much hope and love tied up in those few words. I went to Dan Meyer’s house a few weeks later and within a couple hours we had completed the song. And now it’s the title cut and 1st single from our new EP.
As I was praying about how to introduce “By Your Blood” at a conference recently, God kept highlighting the word overcome in my spirit from the chorus. I felt like there were some people in that audience that needed to be reassured of the strength we have in the blood of Christ and reminded that in the end, we overcome by the blood of the Lamb. Rev. 12:11, speaking of the church in the last days says, They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. By His blood, we overcome!
There are so many things in this world that we all have to overcome – sickness, disease, addiction, and financial crisis. Jesus even said in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble.” But the best part is… He also said, “But take heart! I have overcome the world." He has overcome the world!
There’s just this amazing comfort that comes in knowing that by His blood we overcome - even in the midst of trials. Knowing that we can rest in and trust in His love and His strength when our own is failing us. Romans 8:35-37 says, Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? - No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
We are more than conquerors and we overcome.
As I write this, the news is flooded with images of the terrible tornado in Moore OK and my heart and prayers go out to them. There are so many circumstances that we can’t explain. But our hope is found in heaven, in the eternal God that knows and sees all and has assured us that in the end, we overcome. His love is forever and it always surrounds us. He will never leave or forsake us.
The part of this song that really comes alive in me when we sing it is the bridge. It says….we stand in Your strength, we stand in Your love, we stand in Your forgiveness and grace oh God. In times of trial and hardship we can stand firm and rely on the strength and love of Christ – even when our circumstances can’t be explained and don’t make sense. God’s strength and love are always available to us. And By His Blood, We Overcome!
